Centering Prayer/Praying in Community:
”For God alone my soul waits in silence”. Psalm 62:5
We invite you to join us in a time of prayer, personal intercessions, and then a silence of 20 minutes each Wednesday morning at 9:00 am in your own home, wherever you are, on a quiet walk or drive so that communally we can be a united force of energy and light in prayer together.
Preparation for Centering Prayer:
Thomas Keating’s suggested orientation prayer for centering prayer.
”Lord , we adore you present in our inmost being and among us.
Draw us inwardly by the greatness of your love, so that we may taste the peace which passes all understanding; and that little by little we might understand what it means to be lived in by God. Heal the wounds of a lifetime, body, soul and spirit, as we wait lovingly upon your presence and healing action within us.”
Basil Pennington and Thomas Keating suggest these steps for practicing Centering Prayer:
- Sit comfortably with your eyes closed, relax, and quiet yourself.
- Be in love and faith to God.
- Choose a sacred word that best supports your sincere intention to be in the Lord’s presence and open to His divine action within you. When your attention wanders, use this sacred word to re-focus.
Prayer at the end of the 20 minute silence:
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever. AMEN
Please let us know if you are joining us on Wednesdays.
