Maundy Thursday comes from English word Maundy in that name for the day is derived from the Latin mandatum, the first word of the phrase “Mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos” (“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you”). On Maundy Thursday, we contemplate this commandment in the context of Jesus’ washing of the disciples feet, and his Last Supper with the disciples before his own, Servant offering of himself on the cross.
